How to Draw Yourself
I see myself with three distinct identities, I separated them and cut an image corresponding to each one out of wood and printed them on Mylar as an expression of making my identity transparent. Behind each image of myself, on separate pieces of Mylar I layered poems that correspond with each of my identities to try to mimic visually the process of understanding a person on a deep level. To read the poems the viewer has to move around the image as well as through the portrait’s graphic lines. I hope that the layered elements are a point of connection between the image and the viewer. The mirrored sheen of the Mylar also literally lets the viewer see herself in my image, and how she relates to me.
