P Letterpress Print Designed by Simon Charwey
 
"Kente is a modular design system just like exploring modular letterform design using LEGO® bricks. My goal is to work with either the physical bricks or an inDesign digital template while bringing my cultural identity and typographic skills into the letterform “P”. This enabled me to play as much as bringing both the kente modular design system and the letterpress with the LEGO® bricks intent into a meaningful dialog forming the letter “P”. Pedro and I understand that there’s heavy limitations with the grid/brick systems to create letterforms. But as designers, we know innovation is birthed out of constraints and freedom alike. Working in such a restrictive environment provides both a “creative tool” and a “creative challenge”. Though I felt actually working with the physical bricks would have provided a better fun exploration together with my 8-year old daughter."
 
This individual unnumbered letterpress print was created for the edition A2Z: Learning Through Lego© and Letterforms by Pedro Neves, Amira Hegazy and Shannon Morrissey.  This edition was printed on a Vandercook Universal I. An extremely limited amount of individual prints are available.
